A Quiet River

Posted by Teresa Boardman 2 Comments »

The Mississippi River near downtown is almost never this quiet. With wind, boat traffic and current, it is rare that it looks smooth. Last night it was quiet and I happened to notice. I grabbed my camera hoping to get a few quick shots. There were a lot of other people who had the same idea.

I crossed the Wabasha bridge and there were three people with camera’s taking pictures. I took the pictures from Harriet Island and took the Smith Avenue bridge home. There were two people on the bridge with camera’s. I wonder is they all have blogs?

Hockey

This is Minnesota, I shouldn’t have to say anything more. We all learn to skate before we can walk. This is the Xcel Energy center, home of the Minnesota Wild. This is where the Republican national convention will be held next fall. It should be wild. For those of us who live close by they have already told us we might have trouble getting to and from our homes at tertian times. It is that way when there is a wild game too.

The Minnesota Wild opener is tonight.

Barges

Posted by Teresa Boardman No Comments »

No one knows why I take pictures of barges, but I do.   We will see them along the river for a few more weeks and then the shipping season will end. The river does not freeze over solid near downtown but the locks become inoperable because of the ice. The shipping season ends in October. In mid-march or early April the first barges of next years shipping season will find their way to St. Paul.

Summer Downtown

This photo was taken through the windshield of my car. St. Paul, has a temperature range of about 140 degrees. This time of year we get beautiful weather. It gets down into the 50’s or 60’s at night and up into the lower 70’s to lower 80’s during the day. The sky is so blue because the humidity is low. The photo shows the Landmark Center, looking down Market Street near the St. Paul Hotel. In the far right near the horizon is the dome of the Cathedral.
